Technical Designer

A fabrication focused studio is seeking an experienced Technical Designer and Fabrication Detailer. This full time hybrid or in person role is responsible for creating three dimensional models, coordination drawings, shop drawings and fabrication assets including cut and part files. The role supports custom fabrication across multiple industries and sits at the front end of the production process. Strong detailing ensures efficient workflow and contributes directly to successful outcomes in the shop.

Responsibilities

Read and interpret designer drawings and related documentation to produce structurally and financially appropriate fabrication drawings.

Create documentation suited to the needs of permanent installations, events, broadcast environments and tradeshow builds. This may include three dimensional coordination models, scans, ground plans, elevations, detailed sections, show and hall layouts, electrical layouts, mechanicals, submittal sets, installation packets and setup drawings.

Deliver assigned projects accurately and on schedule.

Collaborate with department leadership to define objectives and understand project requirements.

Work with project managers or account managers to specify materials, products and quantities.

Ensure documentation supports safe and efficient packing and transport of fabricated assets.

Conduct site surveys and translate findings accurately into technical documentation.

Prepare CNC, laser and water jet cut files as required.

Provide technical support to fabrication teams and onsite crews.

Maintain an organized library of all projects including as built documentation.

Uphold core values of safety, collaboration, quality and consistency.

Requirements

A minimum of two years of direct experience in the event or tradeshow industry as a draftsman.

Technical background with practical fabrication experience such as carpentry, electrical work, metalwork or rigging.

Strong proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.

Ability to proactively identify and resolve challenges that may affect budgets or schedules.

Capability to meet deadlines in a fast paced fabrication environment.

Comfort managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Excellent organizational, problem solving and analytical abilities.

Ability to interpret and create reports to support scheduling decisions.

Valid drivers licence and passport.

Willingness to travel for work.

Familiarity with the Microsoft suite.

Residence within a reasonable distance from the shop to allow same day onsite support when needed.
